Known throughout the surfing world the Côte basque is huge part of surfing history in Europe. Surfing in France began in 1956, when the first surfboards arrived in the luggage of a Californian surfer and filmmaker named Peter Viertel. He was amazed by the quality of the waves that he found on the Côte Basque and surfing caught on quickly, due, in no small part to the Basque peoples love of the ocean.

Needless to say the variety of different waves here mean that there is something for everyone. If you’re new to surfing then the perfect place is Handaye plage 10 mins from the campsite. We’ve team up with Ecole de surf Lehana to provide our guests with surf lessons and hire. Julien and Mathieu are great guys and can help you enjoy  surfing in the warmth of SW France. Here’s a video to get you in the mood. Stand up Paddle boarding is also available to hire. Bookings can be made in advance or when you arrive but it is subject to availability.
